British Women's Group Bangkok

The British Women’s Group of Bangkok held their first charity fundraiser Fashion Show in January 2008.

Based on a very successful event on the annual Jakarta social scene, this Black Tie event started with cocktails, a sit down dinner, followed by the ‘fashion show’ and concluded with dancing until the early hours of the morning. Using local designers and working with our BWG members (and some husbands) as models, we had a fun evening while raising money for charity. This year we are donating funds raised to the following three charities:

• The People Eye Care Foundation, an organization set up to provide cataract operations for the elderly poor people living in rural areas of Thailand. The cost of each operation is approximately 6,000 baht.

• The Fatima Centre, an organization, run by Sister Louise. The Centre provides skills training and employment opportunities to women living in the surrounding slums of Din Daeng. They currently employ around 100 women, helping them to support themselves and their families.

• The Mercy Centre, which is home to the HDF, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for the children and communities living within the slums of Bangkok. They have built, and currently run, 31 schools which have educated more than 55,000 children so far and they are working to improve family health and welfare in the area.
