Layana Resort & Spa

If you are looking for a great place to get away and just relax and enjoy good food, read, do some diving, swim and generally just have fun then this is the place for you. We went there a few months back for 5 nights and I wished we had stayed longer and plan to get back there soon.

This wonderful resort in situated on Koh Lanta, Krabi, Thailand. You fly to Krabi, then a driver (organised through the hotel) meets you at the airport and drives an hour to get you to the pier. Then the car boards a ferry and you cross to Lanta Noi, drive a bit more and then onto another ferry to cross to Lanta Yai. From there a quick drive to the hotel. (From airport in BKK to hotel you are looking at about 3 hours travel but the time seems to pass quickly). The van has a DVD machine so we watched movies to while away the time. (There is a quicker way using the hotel boat so speak to them about this mode of transport).

The hotel is located on a 3km stretch of white sand. It is a boutique resort set against a picturesque backdrop of forested hills. It is laid out amid tropical gardens and the rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. There are 3 types of rooms – garden pavilions on the ground floor or first floor, 3 beach suites and 3 ocean deluxe suites which have an upstairs open air deck with wonderful views of the sea and the sunset.

We did some diving while we were there as the hotel has a diving shop where you can organise trips to many exciting places. So for those who are keen divers there is a wide choice of excellent dive sites, especially around the uninhabited islands of Koh Rok Noi and Koh Rok Yai.

The hotel has a wonderful restaurant, bar to have sundowners at, relaxing lounge area at the pool, a library and hire of DVD’s, internet, and a spa. The infinite, saline pool is right on the beach and it is great to cool off in at the end of the day or just laze there all day.

We went into town for a bit of shopping and some wonderful seafood. It is well worth a visit to do this and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The best time to go is March – May and remember the rainy season is June – October and the cool season is November to February. But whatever time you go there you are sure to have a relaxing and enjoyable time. This lovely hotel is owned by South Africans and they will take good care of you. The also have great offers out of season which are well worth making use of.
